What's allowed & what's not

✅

ALLOWED

Reclaimed identity language

"As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I'm proud to use this term about myself.”

Reason: Community in-group reclamation with positive intent is allowed.

Satire on serious issues

"Petition to rename it the 'Climate action department' because the current name is too honest about our priorities."

Reason: Clear sarcasm/satire meant to critique, not misinform. Intent is transparent.

Strong disagreement

"I think your policy is wrong because... [specific reasons]"

Reason: Critiquing ideas, not attacking people. This is healthy discourse.

❌

NOT ALLOWED

The same term used as slur

"Those [slur] don't belong here."

Reason: Same word, but used as attack and exclusion. Removed.

False climate claim

"Climate scientists have proved climate change is a hoax." [with false sources]

Reason: Deliberately false, formatted to mislead. Violates health/science policy.

Personal harassment

"You're an idiot, everyone should [dox/hate/harm] you."

Reason: Attacks person, not idea. Calls for harassment. Removed + action taken.

How we enforce globally

Different regions have different norms, languages, and legal systems. We apply our core values globally but adapt enforcement for local context.

North America flag

North America

Focus: Election misinformation, conspiracy theories, harassment

3 dedicated regional teams. Rapid response to election-related content.

Europe flag

Europe

Focus: GDPR compliance, hate speech against protected groups

2 teams handling strict data protection and right-to-be-forgotten requests.

Asia Pacific

Focus: Language nuance, political sensitivity, religious respect

3 teams with native speakers & cultural experts. Deep local knowledge.

Why this matters: A phrase acceptable in one country might be offensive in another. A political joke clear to one culture might be misunderstood in another. We hire regional teams to catch these nuances.
